CEREC stands for CEramic REConstruction and represents the latest in computer-aided design technology. With CEREC, our doctors can design, create, and place your restoration in one convenient appointment. The all-ceramic CEREC blocs allow our patients to maintain their natural-looking smiles while optimizing their oral health and minimizing the amount of time spent at the dentist’s office. Drs. Virga and Girardi have trained extensively with CEREC technology at the World Renowned, Scottsdale Center for Dentistry. Dr. Virga has completed the intensive CEREC Mastery Continuum and Dr. Girardi has commited to this Mastery Continuum and will complete this advanced training in 2010.
We use CEREC to create custom crowns, inlays, and onlays. The dentist takes a digital impression of your prepared tooth (no messy pastes or putties!), and then uses the 3D imaging software to design a precisely fitting restoration. The dentist can even add grooves and contours for a highly functional, perfectly natural result. Once he has specified the size, shape, and color, the milling machine creates the restoration right in our office. CEREC eliminates the need for temporary crowns and second appointments. Our Watertown and Carthage offices also employs a state-of-the-art glazing and staining vacuum oven to further customize your restoration to a natural, long-lasting beauty.
Backed by over 25 years of research, CEREC restorations have proven durable and long-lasting. Thousands of patients worldwide currently enjoy beautiful crowns, inlays, and onlays milled with CEREC technology. Our dentists are experienced CEREC dentists and confident in providing top-quality restorations with this amazing technology.
Advantages of CEREC Technology
1. Saves Time. With CEREC crowns, you can typically complete treatment in a single appointment, as opposed to two trips for a traditional crown. This also reduces the number of local anesthetic injections (shots) needed, as well as less the time you spend away from work or family.
2. Conserves tooth structure. Oftentimes, a partial coverage restoration can be completed instead of a full conventional crown.
3. Stronger porcelain. Milled ceramic is stronger than the traditional hand-layered and pressed methodology.
4. Esthetically pleasing. Homogenous porcelain blends in better than other porcelains. And with our custom staining technology, the restoration is usually imperceptible.
5. Natural-looking. The ability to copy what was there previously can yield restorations that are duplicates of the pre-prepared tooth.
In some cases, we may recommend traditional, lab-made crowns. Your dentist will discuss your options and recommend the treatment that’s best for your circumstances.
